Job Role

Work as a Silicon Engineering Intern in the Google Cloud Silicon team contributing to design, modeling and verification of next–generation cloud chips and hardware platforms based in Bangalore or Hyderabad.

Required Skills

Strong understanding of digital design, computer architecture and ASIC/FPGA concepts as applicable to cloud silicon projects. Hands-on experience in programming using C++ and Python for modeling, scripting and design-related tasks. Knowledge of Hardware Description Languages such as Verilog or SystemVerilog for front-end design and verification work. Familiarity with industry-standard EDA tools from Synopsys and/or Cadence for synthesis, place and route, and related flows. Exposure to areas like FPGAs, embedded systems, digital circuits or system-level hardware development in academic or project work. Ability to apply mathematical fundamentals including linear algebra and ML/AI related concepts to hardware optimization problems. Good problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze performance, power and area trade-offs in complex hardware systems. Effective communication skills to work with cross-functional hardware and software engineering teams and present technical findings clearly. Capability to work full-time for around 12 weeks during university break as part of the internship schedule. Willingness to be based out of Bangalore or Hyderabad offices and collaborate closely with the MSCA (ML, Systems and Cloud AI) organization.

Job Responsibilities

Participate in architecture exploration and modeling of custom cloud silicon blocks such as TPUs, server IPs and on-chip interconnects. Support design and development activities for front-end digital logic including implementation of arithmetic units and control paths. Contribute to design verification by creating testbenches, writing test cases and using UVM-based verification methodologies. Assist in physical design flows by working on synthesis, timing closure and optimization for power, performance and area (PPA). Help in performance analysis and hardware system integration for accelerators targeting large-scale Google services. Use EDA tools from Synopsys and Cadence to run experiments, debug issues and refine design implementations. Collaborate with senior engineers across hardware and software teams to refine specifications and technical requirements. Document experiment results, design decisions and implementation details and share them with stakeholders through reviews and presentations. Study and analyze memory hierarchy, bus architectures and communication fabrics suitable for hyperscale data center environments. Stay updated with latest research trends in VLSI, ML hardware and cloud infrastructure to support innovative design ideas during the internship.
